History of the School
Established on November 16, 1984.

Approved by the Association for the Promotion of Japanese Language Education.

1988
Approved as a school that operates with 4 terms a year, in January 1988.

Approved as a member of the Japan Immigration Association, an incorporated foundation.

Approved by the Ministry of Justice's Immigration Bureau as an Application Agent*.
1991 Formed an academic partnership with the University of California and established a training course.
1992 The translation and interpretation department of the Netherlands National University began to accept credits given by the Edo Cultural Center.
1994 Formed an academic partnership with the University of California's San Diego Graduate School's International Relations and Pacific Studies.The Edo Cultural Center began to produce its own original textbooks and materials. Also, the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs designated the Center as its official Japanese language school.
1995 Formed an academic partnership with the Foreign Languages Institute at Korean Foreign Languages University, a prominent university in South Korea and established a Korean language course.
1996-97 Established a business-training program that was specifically designed for the Korean National Housing Corporation.
1997 The number of trainees studying the Japanese language in Japan who come from Asian countries reaches 12,000 (as of 2000).
1998 The first cultural training in winter for the Min Tai Senior High School, a Taiwanese school begins.
1999 The second cultural training in winter for the Min Tai Senior High School takes place.Also, cultural training in summer for the Boys Mission from Dalian, China takes place.
2000 European summer course 2000 - a ultural training course, is held.
2001 Lecture meeting on American National Standards.
2002 Teacher training program for AATJ (Alliance of Association of Teachers of Japanese ), US Department of Education.

"Edo Cultural Center Akasaka ONE" was approved by the Association for the Promotion of Japanese Language Education.
2003 Japanese language teacher's training course started.
2004 Consigned by The ILO Association of Japan, Inc., give Japanese language training to the trainees coming from developing countries for International Technical Cooperation Programs.

Established Non Profit Organization TABUNKA Support Center.
*An Application Agent means that an institution has obtained the trust of the Immigration Bureau and is allowed to apply for student visas on behalf of students as well as other complicated procedures.

The Edo Cultural Center is the only institute in Japan that has all four of these authorizations.
